Something I've noticed, mostly in the mountains in Bulgaria, is that we have a lot of apple, cherry, and other trees.
Now, there aren't always people to pick the fruit from them, so they fall to the ground, and then the nutrients get absorbed back in the tree, making soil, and next season's fruit taste better.
As for farmers in rural areas, our machines are old, so sometimes some of the vegetables go back in the soil, they're simply missed instead of being picked.
People think this is bad.
In reality... this is a GOOD thing.
When you grow food... soil quality gets worse. The only thing that improves it is peanuts, so this makes it that we don't need to grow as many peanuts to preserve soil and food quality, to explain.
I'm not sure how to phrase it, I did my best.
